I thought I share an amusing incident from long ago; my high school days. My best friend's mother bought new furniture for their living room. She then had expensive slipcovers made to protect the new furniture. That wasn't enough after all she had 2 teenagers. She cover the slipcovers with clear plastic slipcovers to protect them.
You see back then easy ready-made slipcovers were rare and hard to find. Now my friend's mother had rules as to what was seen. If you had very very special guest all the slipcovers came off and they could sit on the actual furniture. If the guest were family or a church group you set on the slipcovers. The rest of us, her family and the kids who spent time there, we sat on the plastic covers.
Aren't you thankful that we don't have to go to those extremes today. Our easy to care for, wash & dry slipcovers make all this unnecessary. Our slipcovers today go on easily and come off easily. When they are soiled, we can just toss them in the washer and dryer and they come out looking like new. Unlike my high school days slipcovers are easy and convenient.
I'm so glad because sitting on those plastic slipcovers was not fun. On a hot summer day in the south you just stuck to them. It kept us out of their living room and maybe that was the idea all along.
