Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
Are you stuck on what the right decision is for your furniture needs? Let me try and give you some help.
You have 3 choices when it comes to giving your furniture and home a fresh look.
- You can buy new furniture. This option gives you new style and new look. The cushions are firm and comfortable. The price is another story. Furniture is a large investment in something that will only depreciate over time. The furniture's upholstery will wear and get dirty. You will have to spend more money to have it professionally cleaned to keep it new looking. This will need to be done at least once or twice a year for the life of the furniture. If you are like me, you won't let the kids or pets on it for worry that it will be damaged.
- You can have the existing furniture reupholstered. This will let you keep the style of furniture you like. You can keep a favorite piece that you can bare to part with. You can also give a fresh clean look to your grandmother's rocking chair or settee. It will look new and fresh. You can add new color or patterns to your decor. Here once again is a large financial investment. Once when trying to get my recliner recovered, I learned that I could buy a new one for less that reupholstering it. So reupholstering has some of the same pitfalls as new furniture for you to consider.
- You can buy a new slipcover. A new slipcover will give you fresh new colors and patterns. It is not a large investments. Some recliners, for example, can get a new slipcover for less than $75. A slipcover is not a major investment. You get a fresh new look. A slipcover can be washed in the washer and dried in the dryer. No need to spend hundreds of dollars getting it professionally cleaned several times a year. New construction methods and technologies allow slipcovers to look very custom at a modest cost. You can choose from an all cotton loose fitting cover or a stretch form fitting cover. The options are wide open if you choose to get a slipcover over new furniture or reupholstering an old piece.
