To give you the greatest satisfaction from your slipcovers; We want to give you some suggestions for a perfect fit.
Decide if you have a box cushion or a T-cushion style.
If you need to cover dark colors or bold patterns, simply drape a light colored sheet over the furniture before placing the slipcover on the furniture. This will help prevent the old fabric from fading through.
Use a wooden spoon or spatula from your kitchen. This will help you tuck in the excess fabric into the crevices. You can also use rubber gloves which will aid in gripping the fabric
You can secure your fit in one of three ways.
· rolled up and rubber banded magazines
· swimming pool "noodle"
Using any of these methods, you can keep your slipcovers tucked firmly in place by simply pushing this into the creases.
If your furniture has skinny, straight arms or wooden arms, you can wrap each arm with polyester batting like the type used to stuff pillows. This will pad the area for more comfort. Try folding the slipcover fabric to make smooth creases. This will help create a more casual look. Use this technique for sofa, slipcovers, and chair slipcovers.
When covering slick, smooth furniture such as leather, you can use a non-stick rug pad to help the new slipcover grip and not slide on the slick surfaces. Just cut it to fit and put it between the new slipcover and the old surface.
If you are having a hard time getting your cushions into the cover because of a tight fit, simply remove the old cover, place the cushion into a large plastic bag. This will allow the cushions to slide in easily. Once in place remove the plastic bag.
